Michelle Miller, LMSW, MA
NJ & NY State Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist
Clinical Hypnotherapist & EMDR Practitioner
Many people tend to look outside of themselves for answers and to authority figures to tell them what to do when they already have the most intelligent and accurate reference point internally. I help clients empower themselves in a way where they rely on their own internal guidance system. I step in to help my clients find and connect with their powerful inner core. I have been trained in various approaches that speed up the process of healing in my clients compared to traditional psychotherapy approaches. I address self-defeating patterns by helping my clients get to the core of their issues.
My clinical orientation and training is Integrative, as it combines Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) perspectives with Eastern and Energy Psychology approaches. I am trained in EMDR, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Sensorimotor/Somatic Psychotherapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and NLP which I often use as tools to assist clients. One of the areas that I tend to focus on with my clients is a mind-body oriented psychotherapy approach as I've discovered that the body holds onto past traumas that our minds may not always remember. As an advanced standing PhD candidate in Transpersonal Psychology I am able to integrate spirituality and existential issues into my psychotherapy sessions. I find that lasting results are achieved when there is a greater ability to be more present and embrace everything that arises in the moment to moment aspects of the session. I also use effective alternative modalities with clients such as inner child work, shamanic journeying, and mindfulness techniques such as mindfulness based cognitive behavioral therapy (MCBT).
I have experience with clients who have dealt with various types of abuse, depression, anxieties, eating disorders, addictive disorders, codependency and trauma. I work with clients who have been diagnosed with: depression, anxiety, bi-polar, psychotic disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and various dissociative disorders. One of my specialities is working with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD). I use EMDR when necessary with my clients for healing past traumas. I find it much more powerful and effective than the more traditional trauma based psychotherapy models. I work with children, adolescents, young adults, adults and the elderly offering individual, family, couples, and group psychotherapy.
